Report Into Radio

· What are the major commercial companies in each Industry?
Major commercial companies ; mercury, kiss, bbc, absolute and heart are some of the examples that are based in the UK.

· What types of jobs can you apply for and where could these jobs possibly lead?

radio broadcaster, radio broadcast assistant, radio journalist, radio producer, radio sound technician, radio studio manager.



· What type of skills would you need, to apply for a job in each of your chosen industries?

no qualifications needed, experience is greatly admired for this job.

· Can you find a job or some work experience that is related to your industry of choice? yes the bbc offers volunteering eperience.




4. Write up your notes into three mini reports (min 150 words). Each report should contain details of the following.

the first publicly aimed broadcasting company to be given its liscence was KDKA in 1920. but radios has been broadcasting for many years before that as experimental means for comunication. It is now greatly used for comunication of news and music but often hosts a huge variety of entertainment in the forms of chat show games and radio plays. the bigger companies these days are kiss, magic, mercury, bbc ETC. no actual grades needed just need to be able to speak freely and be able to work in a team. im interested in this as i like bieng open and i like comunicationg with other people. very demanding and needs alot of research and preperation.

· Historical Origins and developments within the industry



· Key companies or industry leaders (a range of examples)



· How individuals can get into the industry, i.e. Qualifications needed etc.



· Your own interest and evaluation of your chosen industry

1. Make a list of as many Media industry areas that you can think of

(Moving image) - Television, film, photography, animation

(Audio) - Radio, talking books and guides, sound for interactive media

(Print)- Newspapers, magazines, poster, flyers

(interactive media)- websites, video games, CD-roms

Media Sectors

Moving Image - television and film. E.G. BBC, Bungee.

Audio- radio, talking books and guides and sound for interactive media. E.G. BMG, Mercury radio, BBC.

Print- newspaper, magazines, posters and flyers. E.G. News International, BBC.

Interactive Media - websites, video games and CD-ROMS. E.G. Bungee, BBC, News International, Mercury.

Advertising and Marketing - print, television, radio and film. E.G. Sachi.

The Media Industry

Producers - The producers create content for audience to consume.

Distributors - The distributors make this content available to audience.

Regulators - The regulators ensure that the producers and distributors follow the codes of conduct and laws that govern the media industry.

Producer - Granada and Arden films

Distributors - BBC and ITV

Regulator - ofcom (TV regulation) BBFC (film regulation) ITC (advertising regulation)
